In particular, according to the information note of the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum for September, the arrival flows of illegal immigrants in the country for the first nine months of 2023 increased by 170% compared to the corresponding period of 2022.
This means 29,714 arrivals in absolute numbers compared to only 11,023 in 2022.
It is noted that based on the available data, the flows for September 2023 showed a 433% increase compared to September 2022.
At the same time, these data put the country’s overall migration policy under pressure since, in the nine months that passed in 2023, only 5,140 returns were recorded, a significant figure but disproportionate to the recorded arrivals.
The hospitality structures are also under corresponding pressure, since while in the first nine months of 2022, there were 18,438 residents in total in the 33 facilities throughout the territory, this number has reached 30,535 for 2023.
The percentage increase is 66% in mainland structures and 294% in the islands.
