Hailey Bieber, the 26-year-old model and beauty entrepreneur, recently revealed the Greek origins of her middle name, Rhode, which she also uses as the brand name for her successful skincare products launched in 2022.

She shared the fascinating story during an interview with GQ Hype. Born Hailey Rhode Baldwin to her parents, actor Stephen Baldwin, 57, and his wife Kennya Deodato, Hailey explained her fascination with myths and legends, which led her to discover the rich history behind her middle name.

As Hailey explained, Rhode derives from an ancient Greek deity named Rhode. In Greek mythology, Rhode was considered the protectress and personification of the Dodecanese island of Rhodes. She was believed to be the sea-nymph daughter of Poseidon, the god of the ocean, and the wife of Helios, the god of the sun. Some myths even suggested that the island of Rhodes in Greece was born from their divine union.

Hailey connected to her middle name, stating, "If you go back, back, back and look, it comes from that." Her fascination with Greek mythology began at a young age and persisted into adulthood, even recommending Greek epic poems "The Iliad" and "The Odyssey" as excellent travel reads back in 2015. She described the author, Homer, as fascinating.

She continued to reflect on her obsession, saying, "It was my favourite thing I learned in school. I was just so obsessed with the ideas and the stories of these gods and goddesses."

Born and raised north of Manhattan in New York, Hailey was homeschooled starting in eighth grade. At 18, she moved out of her parents' home, embracing her independence and eagerly embarking on her personal journey. She shared her excitement about adulthood, stating, "I couldn't wait to just be an adult. I was young, eyes wide open, super independent, couldn't wait to move out, and make my own money."

Regarding her concept of home, Hailey revealed that as long as she is with her husband, Justin, and their dogs, she feels at home anywhere. She expressed, "Home to me feels like I can be anywhere. I'm good as long as I'm with my dogs and husband. I can make a home out of that anywhere."
