Tsitsipas survives a three-set thriller in Vienna

Stefanos Tsitsipas reached the quarter final for the first time in four attempts at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna with a 6-3 4-6 7-5 win over Tomas Machac in 1 hour and 58 minutes at the Wiener Stadthalle.

Tsitsipas earned an early break in the second game and held on his service game at love to close out the first set 6-3 with an ace . The Greek player did not face a break point all match until the ninth game of the second set when Tsitsipas served at 4-5. Machac earned the break in the 10th game with a forehand volley to clinch the second set 6-4 forcing the match to the decider. 

Machac earned a break in the fourth game of the third game to take a 4-1 lead but Tsitsipas won six of the final seven games. The Greek earned his second break on his fourth opportunity in the 11th game and served out the third set 7-5 at love reaching his ninth quarter final of the season.

Tsitsipas consolidated his sixth place in the ATP Live Race to Turin. 

Tsitsipas set up a quarter final match against world number 77 Borna Gojo, who broke once in each set to upset Tommy Paul 6-3 6-4.
