Greek-Owned Café “That Place” Recognized as the Most Outstanding Cafe in Sydney’s Bayside Area

For the second consecutive year, “That Place,” a Greek-owned café in Sydney, has been awarded the title of the Most Outstanding Café at the Local Business Awards. This prestigious recognition comes shortly after owner George Zaharof secured the Outstanding Business Person of the Year award, marking a year of significant achievements for the café.

With two locations in Mascot and Stanmore, “That Place” stood out in the competitive Bayside region, where the café industry thrives.

What makes this recognition even more special is that the nominations and votes are cast by the locals of Mascot and Bayside, emphasizing the establishment’s local support and community appreciation.

George Zaharof was born in Athens and raised on the island of Lemnos, but like many educated Greeks, he left Greece during the challenging financial crisis of 2008-2016. Having relatives in Australia was a significant advantage, providing him with the support and guidance that many newcomers often lack.

“I’ve been blessed with the relatives I have here in Australia because they have been very supportive,” Zaharof explained. He acknowledged the challenges many immigrants face when they arrive in a foreign country without the same support system.

Looking ahead, “That Place” has exciting plans, including an updated menu with innovative drink options and coffee brewing techniques. They also aim to introduce a dinner service this summer and, ultimately, secure a larger venue to continue their success story.
