Empress Theophano Prize bestowed to the United Nations

United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres is to be awarded the 4th Empress Theophano Prize on behalf of the organisation that he leads at a ceremony held in the Rotunda Monument - a symbol of multiculturalism - in the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki on Thursday, November 9.
According to an announcement by the Empress Theophano Foundation, "the 4th Award of the pan-European Empress Theophano Prize is awarded to the United Nations in the name of Mr. António Guterres, United Nations Secretary General, a global leader of the world’s largest international organization that fosters multilateral collaboration." 
President of the Hellenic Republic Ms Katerina Sakellaropoulou will honour the event with her presence, the announcement said.
Guterres appointed the United Nations Under-Secretary-General and high representative of the Alliance of Civilisations (UNAOC) Miguel Ángel Moratinos to represent him at the award ceremony in Thessaloniki.
The Theophano Prize has been created in order to reward individuals or organizations who have made or are making an outstanding contribution to building bridges among people, nations, ideologies, to improving mutual understanding of our diverse roots.
Top personalities from Europe and Greece are expected to attend the event, among them European Commission Vice President Margaritis Schinas, former president of Ireland Mary McAleese, former president of the German parliament Rita Süssmuth, former UK Ambassador to EU Sir Ivan Rogers and the former Spanish minister for Trade Maria Luisa Poncela.
