The Greek Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Giorgos Kotsiras, has sent a letter to Macquarie University, strongly advocating for the continuation of their Greek studies programme after a decision to discontinue it.

In support of the initiatives pursued by the Greek community in New South Wales, in his letter, the Deputy Minister underlined the importance of maintaining the Greek language and safeguarding cultural heritage of Hellenism in Australia.

Furthermore, in addition to the programme's undeniable contribution to maintaining the links of the Greek diaspora with Greece, he also highlights the contribution of Greek-language education to multicultural Australia, and, in particular, the constructive role of Macquarie University's Modern Greek Studies programme in strengthening diplomatic and cultural ties between the two countries.

The Greek State continues to actively support the Greek-Australian community organizations in their efforts to maintain the program.
