Parthenon sculptures: Who is ‘Stavros Flatley’ Piers Morgan says we gave Britain

Even commentator Piers Morgan, one of the best-known conservative commentators in Britain, favours the return of the Parthenon Sculptures to Greece.

“Greece is an ally. A friend! They gave us feta cheese, olive oil and Stavros Flatley. It’s time we lost our marbles in return,” was the argument Morgan invoked on his show.

But what is this third “product” that Greece gave Britain besides olive oil and feta cheese?

This is the dancing duo of Demetrios and his son Michalakis ‘Lagi’ Andreas, originally from Cyprus and Britain. They came fourth in the third season of Britain’s Got Talent in 2009.

Ten years later, in 2019, father and son returned for a special show of Britain’s Got Talent, with all the winners and contestants making history and taking second place.

“Stavros Flatley” is the artistic name by which the duo is known.

The name of their act is derived from Irish-American dancer Michael Flatley, best known for Irish dance shows including Riverdance and Lord of the Dance, and Stavros, a Greek kebab shop owner with fractured English who was portrayed by Harry Enfield on Channel 4’s television comedy and music show Saturday Live.
