LOT Polish Airlines announced that it is resuming its daily direct flights to Athens as of April 11, 2024.

LOT Polish Airlines operated regular year-round services to Athens from Warsaw in the pre-pandemic era and even added services to Krakow from April 2009 to October 2011 and then again in the Summer season of 2012. LOT’s last service operated in October 2016.

During this period, LOT achieved its highest volume in PAX traffic, reaching 72,000 round-trip PAX in 2011. During the Pandemic period, LOT operated some sporadic Summer flights to Athens in Summer 2020 and Summer 2021.

Following in-depth discussions with LOT, the airline fully appreciated the potential of the Athens market and made the decision to return to Athens with daily, year-round services as of the 11th of April 2024. On the 27th of November the airline officially announced its decision, with Michał Fijoł, CEO of LOT Polish Airlines stating “The connection to Athens means LOT Polish Airlines passengers get to visit the heart of Greece all year round.”

“Poles are well familiar with the Greek islands, but now the time has come to visit the charming mainland of Greece, just as rich in historical features and ancient culture. What Greece and LOT most certainly have in common is their unparalleled hospitality – which is why I would love to invite you on board,” he added.

Not only will LOT services to Athens benefit from the strong point-point traffic, but equally from the significant connections via Warsaw airport on LOT network.

In 2023, Athens is connected to 5 airport destinations in Poland, with services offered by 4 airlines. In October 2023, Sky Express entered the Polish market offering services to Warsaw, supplementing Aegean and Ryanair. In addition to Warsaw, Aegean is operating to Krakow. Ryanair is operating to Katowice, Krakow, Warsaw (WMI) & Wroclaw. WizzAir is operating to Katowice.

Meanwhile, Polish national carrier LOT Polish Airlines has secured an impressive third-place ranking in the global AirHelp Score 2023, a prestigious assessment of the world’s best airlines. This year’s ranking, published by AirHelp, the world’s largest passenger rights protection company, witnessed LOT outperforming renowned carriers like Air France, Lufthansa, KLM, and British Airways.

LOT Polish Airlines climbed an impressive twelve positions from the previous year to secure a spot among the top three airlines globally. Qatar Airways and Eurowings claimed the first and second positions, respectively. LOT secured the third position, surpassing its major competitors.

LOT’s performance outshone several esteemed European airline brands, including Air France (25 place), Lufthansa (57 place), KLM (16 place), and British Airways (82 place). LOT achieved excellent partial scores in punctuality, passenger reviews, and efficiency in handling compensation claims.

LOT’s strategy of dispersing troops across three sectors rather than concentrating all forces on a single front also contributed to its favorable ranking.
