Stathis Kalyvas president of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center and George Papanastasiou in Zappeion

In a significant announcement, the Cultural Center Stavros Niarchos Foundation Monoprosopi S.A. (SNFCC) has appointed Professor Stathis N. Kalyvas as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors. This development comes as part of a broader reshuffle, with the General Assembly also renewing the term of Mr Elli Andriopoulou as the Managing Director of the Foundation.

Stathis N. Kalyvas: A Scholar of Distinction

Professor Stathis N. Kalyvas is a renowned figure in the academic realm, currently serving as a Professor of Political Science at the University of Oxford, where he holds the prestigious Gladstone Chair. Before this appointment, he held the Arnold Wolfers Chair at Yale University from 2003 to 2018. Prof. Kalyvas boasts an illustrious career, marked by numerous research articles in leading scientific journals and authorship of impactful books.

A graduate of the National Kapodistrian University of Athens, Prof. Kalyvas pursued postgraduate studies at the University of Chicago on a Fulbright Foundation scholarship, earning his Ph.D. in 1993. He is a respected member of scientific boards and research centres in both Europe and the United States. His academic accomplishments include election to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2008 and the British Academy in 2020.

Elli Andriopoulou's Continued Leadership

The General Assembly also confirmed the continuation of Ms. Elli Andriopoulou as the Managing Director of SNFCC. Ms. Andriopoulou, who assumed the role in June 2020, brings a wealth of experience from the banking sector, business consulting, and philanthropy. Her extensive career includes roles at Oliver Wyman in Boston, Citibank in various capacities, and her tenure at SNF where she served as co-COO of the Athens office and later as Administrative Director of the SNFCC.

Ms. Andriopoulou holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a BA in Psychology from the American College of Greece. Currently, she is also a non-executive member of the Board of Directors of Alpha Bank since 2022.

New Leadership at Zappeio

In a parallel development, architect-engineer Giorgos Papanastasiou has been appointed as the new president of Zappeio (Olympic and Endowments Committee) by the decision of the Minister of National Economy and Finance, Kostis Hatzidakis. Papanastasiou, a graduate of École Nationale d'Architecture de Marseille, has been practising as an Architect Engineer for an impressive 44 years. He has also served as a technical advisor to the Hellenic Parliament and held leadership positions at the National Museum of Contemporary Art (EMST).

These leadership changes reflect the commitment to excellence and expertise in steering SNFCC and Zappeio towards continued success. The extensive backgrounds of the newly appointed leaders underscore dedication to advancing cultural and architectural initiatives in Greece.
