Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has not one, not two, but six imposing Mercedes Maybach S 600 Guards at his disposal, and they are coming to Athens with a cargo plane accompanying the Presidential plane.
Six wonderful, ultra-luxurious armoured cars that move both in Turkey and worldwide. Let's see all their impressive features.
Erdoğan's armoured Mercedes Maybach S 600 Guard was acquired in late 2017 to transport the Turkish President with the highest possible security.
Until then, Erdoğan owned the previous generation Mercedes S 600 L. According to Turkish media, each unit cost 1,000,000 Turkish Lira, while another 1,000,000 Turkish Lira was required for each armour. In other words, 12,000,000 Turkish pounds (in 2017 value) were spent. Of course, today, with 0.047 euros to the Turkish lira, the cost of these cars has gone up a lot...
This particular Mercedes S-Class has an extended wheelbase to offer top comfort (Mercedes Maybach S 600). However, its main feature is the absolute protection it provides against gunshots, explosions, and even chemical attacks since inside, a unique air circuit does not allow the entry of external gases.
At the same time, the body is made of a special titanium alloy that offers the necessary armour, while the doors are reinforced with an additional 13 cm thick steel. The tires are entirely resistant to explosions and bullets, while the special rims, even if the tires are cut, have the property of continuing to move the car.
The lights are also of a unique design, which illuminates more than the lights of the "normal" Mercedes Maybach S 600, while at the same time, right next to the front lights, there are special tear gas launchers, which allow the immediate escape of the car in an emergency.
Inside Erdoğan's armoured Mercedes Maybach, the Turks have installed a telephone that connects directly to the Göktürk-1 satellite so that there is direct communication with the President no matter what happens.
Also, although the rear window is the only one that is not shielded, a unique steel frame has been placed just behind the headrests of the rear seats, which offers the necessary protection.
As far as the engine is concerned, this is Mercedes ' beastly 6-litre V12 twin turbo with 523 horsepower. This motor moves the hefty body of the S 600 Guard, which weighs no less than 4.1 tons, with typical comfort!
