December 9, 1950: Greek Expeditionary Force Arrives in Korea during the Korean War

On December 9, 1950, a pivotal moment unfolded in the context of the Korean War as the Greek expeditionary force, comprising 1,000 men, reached Busan after a challenging 24-day sea journey from Piraeus. Simultaneously, the 13th Hellenic Air Force (HAF) Squadron had already landed in Japan, marking Greece's committed involvement in the conflict.

The Korean War saw a total of 10,255 Greek soldiers actively participating, underscoring the nation's dedication to the collective efforts for peace. Tragically, 187 Greek soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice, among them a relative of mine, highlighting the personal toll and sacrifices endured by the Greek contingent during this historic chapter.
