AEGEAN flights up to 95% full – The top destinations for Christmas and New Year

High occupancy rates reaching up to 95% in the peak of the holidays are presented by AEGEAN, which has strengthened its regular itineraries compared to last year, having also added charter flights to popular destinations to meet the demand.

In particular, the company has increased the available seats by approximately 10% both for the domestic network and for the foreign network compared to the same period in 2022, in the context of the expansion of its network, the broader strengthening of the activity, but and the increased demand during the Christmas period.

Almost two weeks before the Christmas holidays, the occupancy rates on the international network from the bases in Athens and Thessaloniki are high, with the percentages varying depending on the destination from 76% to 80% or even more for the Christmas period. Traffic for the international network peaks on Friday, December 22 and Saturday, December 23, days on which average occupancy is already above 85% from/to Athens and 95% from/to Thessaloniki.

During the New Year period, occupancy is somewhat lower, from 66% to 70%, while for return flights, Tuesday, 2 January, is the day with the highest demand, with rates already prohibitive for those who have yet to book their return.

The top destinations from the Athens base include Prague, Paris, Vienna, London, Zurich, Barcelona and Geneva. In contrast, from the Thessaloniki base, the top destinations are Paris, Larnaca, Zurich, Dusseldorf, Barcelona and Stuttgart.

For Christmas, Greeks continue to choose the "traditional" Christmas destinations abroad, such as London, Geneva, Vienna, etc. However, their choices reflect the current trend to travel and discover the beauties of alternative destinations, such as Copenhagen, Morocco, Innsbruck, Krakow, and Chisinau.

Within Greece, travellers choose Thessaloniki, Alexandroupoli, Ioannina, Heraklion, Chania, etc. It is worth noting that many passengers are students, teachers, military personnel, etc., returning to their place of origin during this period.

Reservations for the traditional Christmas destinations abroad have been made for some time. At the same time, one can find last-minute opportunities for various destinations, such as Istanbul on the international network and Corfu on the domestic network.

In addition, AEGEAN will also operate charter flights during the festive period, which record almost 100% occupancy, Specifically from Athens to Rovaniemi, while from Thessaloniki, it operates charter flights to Prague, Budapest, Basel, Vienna and Bratislava.

In addition, AEGEAN's winter program gives increased options to passengers this year, who can choose between 108 destinations (31 domestic and 77 foreign) in 45 countries.

AEGEAN 's network constantly expands to new destinations, such as Athens, Dubai, Innsbruck, Bratislava, Baku, and Barcelona from Thessaloniki. In addition, for several destinations, such as Frankfurt, Brussels, Munich, Berlin, Madrid, Copenhagen, etc., the frequency of flights has increased.
