The country’s migration policy remains unchanged, as it maintains a strict anti-trafficking stance and favors legal migration routes,” stated Minister of Migration and Asylum, Dimitris Kairides, during a parliamentary session on Saturday.
Kairides emphasized the need for significant improvements in the area of legal migration, including the enhancement, modernization, and streamlining of administrative processes.
Regarding the proposed amendment granting a three-year stay and work permit to undocumented migrants, Kairides clarified that this does not imply legalization, nor does it provide any rights beyond labor market access. It does not encompass family reunification, permanent residence, or citizenship, as practiced in Germany. Furthermore, this measure solely applies to individuals who entered the country before 2021, have resided here for three years, possess a work contract, and maintain a clean criminal record. It does not pertain to new arrivals in 2022 or 2023.
