The Metropolitan of Mantineia and Kynouria, Alexandros, passed away at the age of 87 on Tuesday morning.
According to Proto Thema, the Metropolitan has recently been facing health problems.
Metropolitan Alexandros was born on October 28, 1936, in the village of Paparis in Arcadia. He graduated from the Ecclesiastical School of Corinth and then studied at the Theological School of the University of Athens.
He held a Master's degree in Orthodox Theology from the University of Cyprus. The title of his master's thesis was "The Metropolitan Holy Church of Saint Basil of Tripoli".
He was elected Metropolitan of Nafpaktos and Agios Vlasios in May 1984. In 1985, he established a Priestly Training School in Nafpaktos for the training of new clergy, while in the same year, the church magazine "Ecclesiastical Temple" began to be published under his direction.
In 1986, he established a School of Byzantine Music in Nafpaktos under the supervision of the Metropolis. Also in Nafpaktos, a Diorthodox Conference was organised with the participation of the Autocephalous Churches of Alexandria, Romania, Russia, Bulgaria, Serbia and Prague, and under the general supervision of the archbishop of Athens and all Greece, Seraphim.
In January 1995, he was elected Metropolitan of Mantineia and Kynouria. His enthronement occurred in the Holy Metropolitan Church of Agios Basilios of Tripoli on February 26, 1995.
In 2016, he was a member of the Delegation of the Church of Greece to the Pan-Orthodox Synod of Crete.
