An earthquake of magnitude 3.4 occurred only 5 minutes ago, 45 km southeast of Karpathos, Greece, the National Observatory of Athens (NOA) reported.

The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicentre near Karpathos, Dodecanese, South Aegean, Greece, early morning on Friday, December 22nd, 2023, at 3:12 am local time. The quake's exact magnitude, epicentre, and depth might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations or as other agencies issue their reports.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Karpathos (pop. 2,200) located 45 km from the epicenter.
