The low-cost carrier is adding another seasonal transatlantic market.

Norse Atlantic Airways has announced a new transatlantic route from Athens to New York-JFK, which will operate five times weekly in the Summer 2024 season.

The low-cost, long-haul carrier plans to schedule the first flight for May 30, 2024, and reduce service to three times weekly on September 13, 2024. The airline will operate these flights with its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft.

Norse Atlantic’s first scheduled flight from Athens will connect the capital of Greece with New York. The Norwegian airline currently serves London’s Gatwick Airport and Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport from New York-JFK, with seasonal flights to Berlin, Oslo, and Rome.

Increased Competition

This new route will benefit passengers traveling from Athens to New York. Currently, the only other carriers that offer this city pairing are:

  • Delta operates 14 flights per week
  • American operates seven times a week
  • United operates seven times weekly from Newark Liberty International Airport
  • Emirates operates seven times weekly from Newark Liberty International Airport

Delta and American are the only competitors of Norse Atlantic at New York JFK, with United and Emirates operating in Newark. A quick Google Flights search shows that the newcomer offers highly competitive fares for a one-way nonstop flight from Athens to New York JFK, which is of course subject to change.

Norse Atlantic Airways has positioned itself to capture the leisure market by offering highly competitive fares for a one-way nonstop flight from Athens to New York-JFK. Its fares surpass Delta’s by over $900 and American’s by over $2,500. This increased competition among airlines operating this route will result in lower fares, benefitting passengers traveling from Athens to New York.
