Main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader Stefanos Kasselakis accompanied by Mr. Michalis and Christos Alefantis, seller and editor of the street magazine Shedia, walked and had dinner with homeless and former homeless people at the house of Shedia on Christmas Eve.

Later, Kasselakis uploaded a video to social media, writing: "When we become government, the national goal will be to eradicate homelessness completely."

SYRIZA leader receives carollers at party's central offices

Kasselakis on Sunday received Christmas carollers from the "Diktei Kastrini" Cretan Association at SYRIZA-PA's headquarters on Koumoundourou Square and watched them perform traditional Cretan Christmas songs and dances.

The main opposition leader exchanged gifts with the dancers and musicians and wished for "peace in the world and solidarity within Greek society," while the event was followed by an impromptu party for those attending.

Kasselakis was due to depart for the United States with his partner, Tyler McBeth, on Sunday to spend the holidays with their families.

Around midnight on Saturday, meanwhile, the main opposition leader paid a surprise visit to the headquarters of the ambulance service EKAB and exchanged wishes with the staff, pledging that SYRIZA will remain at their side "at a time when they are forgotten by the state".

"These are the numbers: 45 ambulances for 5,000,000 population. And where there are ambulances, there are no paramedics," he said, pointing out that ambulance workers will be spending their holidays saving lives and that he wanted to thank them as they were "the heroes of our society".
