Property Transfers Go Digital: Greece Launches New Platform for Swifter, Streamlined Transactions

Property Transfers Go Digital

Say goodbye to lengthy in-person procedures and embrace the convenience of digital property transfers in Greece!

As of January 1, 2024, citizens and public notaries can now seamlessly transfer properties online through a new e-platform, significantly reducing processing times and paperwork. This innovative initiative eliminates the need for physical visits to Cadaster offices and cuts back on bureaucratic hurdles.

Here's how it works:

  1. Log in and accept the invitation: Citizens log in to the platform and accept an invitation from their notary public.
  2. Select property: The current owner or co-signee selects the property to be transferred.
  3. Pay fees and enter into Cadaster: Buyers pay the required fees and enter the transaction details into the Cadaster.

Faster, Easier, and Paperless:

  • One-day turnaround: Approved transfers or justified rejections are issued within a single working day, compared to previous delays of several months.
  • Reduced paperwork: Four documents, including proof of real estate tax payment and property contract summaries, are no longer required.
  • No physical visits: Interested parties can complete the entire process online, saving time and effort.

Government Encourages Platform Adoption:

The government is urging notaries to utilize the platform actively, guaranteeing swift and efficient transfer completion within a working day. Digital Governance Deputy Minister Constantinos Kyranakis has been engaging with notary associations in Athens and Thessaloniki to promote its adoption.
