Thessaloniki: 39-year-old Turkish man killed a 49-year-old Iraqi in Lagakiia

The arrest of a 39-year-old Turk as the murderer of a 49-year-old Iraqi who was found dead on Thursday morning at the entrance of the Lagadiki stadium in Thessaloniki was carried out by police officers of the Crimes Against Life and Personal Freedom Department of the Thessaloniki Security Directorate.

According to the police announcement, the Turk stabbed the 49-year-old three times in the chest with a folding knife after a fight they had on the fateful night.

The unfortunate Iraqi had taken refuge in the changing room of the stadium as he did not live in the migrant structure in the area, which is near the scene of the murder. According to locals, the man stayed there for the past two years and was well-known in the village.

The case of homicide against a 49-year-old Iraqi man that took place in the area of ​​Lagadiki, Thessaloniki, was solved after a thorough and methodical investigation by police officers of the Department of Crimes against Life and Personal Freedom of the Directorate of Security of Thessaloniki.

A 39-year-old Turk was identified as the perpetrator, who was located by police officers of the above Service, with the assistance of the Department of Prevention and Suppression of Crime of the Thessaloniki Security Directorate, and a case was filed against him for manslaughter and illegal carrying of weapons - use of weapons. At the same time, he was arrested for violating the Legislation "Danger to national security or public order, at the reasoned judgment of the competent authority".

As emerged from the police investigation, the arrested person, in the evening hours of 01-03-2024, after an argument with the 49-year-old, attacked him with a folding knife and mortally wounded him.

The arrested person will be taken to the competent Prosecutor.
