Nick Kyrgios compared his own injury situation to Rafael Nadal's as he expressed his sympathy for the Spaniard's withdrawal from the 2024 Australian Open.
Nadal had returned to tennis after a prolonged absence due to a hip injury and had a successful run at the Brisbane International, winning his matches in straight sets. However, in his third-round match against Jordan Thompson, Nadal struggled and eventually lost, visibly experiencing pain in his left hip.
Nadal later announced his withdrawal from the Australian Open due to a minor muscle tear, different from his previous injury. In support of his rival, Kyrgios, who is also dealing with injury troubles, took to social media to wish Nadal a speedy recovery and shared his own fear of returning to the court too soon. Kyrgios tweeted,
"Feel for Rafa man 😢💔 get better soon, that was the fear for me as well, coming back a little too soon…"
