Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou held a highly emotional ceremony at the Presidential Mansion on Friday.
She posthumously presented the Grand Cross of the Order of the Phoenix to Angela Moira Mandalios and Philip Mandalios, two dedicated volunteer interpreters who tragically lost their lives during a Greek humanitarian mission in Libya on September 17, 2023. The Mandalios siblings were part of a Greek rescue team bound for the flood-devastated city of Derna when they were sadly among the five team members who perished. In a somber event, their father Kanakis Mandalios and sister Lilian Mandalios received the awards on behalf of Angela and Philip, surrounded by their grieving mother, relatives, and friends. The ceremony was attended by Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis, further emphasizing the significance and solemnity of the occasion.
