Mamy Blue, the new hot spot for Napoletana pizza in Athens

Mamy Blue is the new restaurant in Glyfada that serves the most authentic Neapolitan recipes in a space full of colours and aromas of Italy. The impressive room, reminiscent of the courtyard of a Sicilian villa with impressive lemon trees and hydrangeas, if nothing else, predisposes you pleasantly.

Like the frescoes with portraits of Sophia Loren and Diego Maradona, the fresh basil in the handmade ceramic vases and, of course, the imposing wood-burning oven clearly give the -Italian- stamp of the new restaurant.

The executive chef, Kostas Merianos, prepares his own dishes inspired by Naples every day. The menu has appetisers, imaginative salads, pasta and, of course, pizza!

The dough in each Napoletana pizza matures from 36 to 48 hours and is baked exclusively in a wood-fired oven at 450-500 degrees Celsius.

What else can we say about this pizza?

The sous chefs curate its authentic Neapolitan shape, which resembles a cartwheel, like any traditional Neapolitan "ruota di carro" pizza.

From the beginning of the 16th century. After all, in Naples, the pizzaiolo in its working-class districts used to open the dough as much as possible so that large pieces emerged to feed as many mouths as they could.

This is why tradition says that the wider the pizza, the poorer the neighbourhood.

In the authentic Italian restaurant, among the options stand out the Mamy Blue with Fior di Latte mozzarella, gorgonzola, guanciale, caramelised onion and chives, the Marinara with San Marzano tomato sauce, garlic, oregano and extra virgin olive oil, as well as the Modena with mortadella, mozzarella Fior di Latte, burratina and basil pesto with pistachios.

The menu is completed by warm focaccia with rosemary, Neapolitan meatballs with tomato sauce, polenta with taleggio cheese, and arancini with smoked pancetta, tomato, and Parmesan cream.

The menu also includes salads, such as the unique Buratta with roasted beets, roasted hazelnuts, raisins and aged balsamic vinegar.
