The Deputy Minister of Culture, Christos Dimas, met on Monday with the ambassador of India in Athens, Rudrendra Tandon, and among other things, they discussed strengthening the relations between the two countries in film productions and the performing arts.
The prospects created by the Agreement for the "Cultural and Educational Exchanges between Greece and India for the years 2022-2026" program, ratified by the Plenary of the Parliament a few months ago, were put on the carpet.
"We want to build bridges of communication and cooperation with India, especially on issues related to contemporary art forms, film, book, and audio-visual productions more broadly and study together good practices in the integration of digital technology in contemporary creation," said Christos Dimas.
At the end of the meeting, the Greek deputy minister presented the Indian ambassador with a bottle of wine from the vineyards of Nemea in Corinth.
It should be noted that according to the draft law passed in Parliament on the program of cultural exchanges with India, the two sides will encourage cooperation between the audiovisual content producers of the two countries and private investments in the sector.
The two sides also pledged to do everything they can to facilitate the work of film producers.
Essentially, the way is now open for filming Bollywood films and series on Greek soil. Correspondingly, the way for Greek films to be shot in India is also open.
India: What is Bollywood?
Bollywood is the informal name used for the Mumbai film industry, mainly in Hindi. The term is often mistakenly used for the entire Indian film industry when, in fact, it is only a part of it.
Bollywood is the "number 1" producer of movies in India, with a profit of hundreds of millions of dollars and one of the biggest worldwide.
