Marina Bulgari: Granddaughter of the Greek founder of BVLGARI has died at age 93

Marina Voulgari, daughter of Konstantinos and granddaughter of Sotiriou Voulgaris, the Greek founder of the famous brand BVLGARI, died in Rome at the age of ninety-three.

Marina was active, like all her family, in jewellery, and in 1976, she decided to create her own line as a designer, acquiring clients such as Sophia Loren and Ivana Trump.

In the eighties, he opened stores in New York, Milan and Paris and then chose Monaco as a place of residence. In 1996, the Saudi Sheikh Ahmed Fitaihi bought the company Marina B., but she continued designing impressive and original jewellery for many years.

"She was a unique woman; she taught me what courage and determination mean," said Marina Bulgari's niece, Laura Calissoni Colnaghi.

BVLGARI (pronounced Bulgari) is an Italian fashion house with a long history of producing jewellery and luxury goods. Its logo is always in capitals, while the letter U is replaced by V, according to the ancient Roman script (BVLGARI).

The house's products include jewellery, perfumes, watches, sunglasses, bags and other accessories aimed at both men and women. At the same time, they are aimed at people with high incomes, as it is one of the most expensive businesses of its kind.

The business started in 1884, when the Greek immigrant Sotirios Voulgaris (1857 - 1932), originally from the still Turkish-occupied Epirus, specifically from Paramythia Thesprotia, opened a jewellery store in Rome. The art was passed down to his descendants, and entrepreneurship flourished mainly in the 70s when the first stores outside Italy were opened in New York, Paris, Geneva and Monte Carlo.

Today, there are more than 230 stores worldwide.

In recent years, BVLGARI has expanded its business activities into hotel businesses, bearing its name in partnership with the Marriott chain. The first hotel opened in Milan in 2004, followed by Bali in 2006. Again, the venture is aimed at affluent travellers.

In 2001, BVLGARI became a novel, commissioned by the British author Faye Weldon, entitled "BVLGARI Connection". The original 1884 store on Via Condotti in Rome still exists.
