Santorini Residents Warn of Urgent Environmental Threat as Cruise Ship Wreck Remains a Ticking Time Bomb

Santorini residents warn that the wreck of a cruise ship, which grounded near the popular tourist destination in 2007 and sank the next day, is a ticking time bomb that poses an ecological threat.

The Santorini Association for the Salvaging of the Sea Diamond Wreck has sent a letter to Parliament's Special Standing Committee for Environmental Protection, urging the immediate removal of the ship in accordance with current legislation and judicial decisions. The residents highlight that the shipwreck continues to pollute the seabed and poses a constant risk of causing a catastrophic ecological disaster. Additionally, two passengers who went missing during the incident are presumed dead.
