Greece was named the Best Tourist Destination in the World for 2024 (The World's Best Tourist Country 2024) at Sweden's Grand Travel Awards (GTA). This is yet another distinction for Greece in the Nordic market, after the corresponding ones it won in Norway in January.
The awards ceremony took place on February 15 in Stockholm, with Greece tied for first place with Italy, while Spain, Thailand and Portugal were also nominated in the same category.
The Greek award was received by the deputy head of the Greek embassy in Stockholm, Nikolaos Karalekas, and the deputy head of the EOT Service Scandinavia, Maria Zevgoula.
30 years later
It is the first time that, after 30 years, our country wins this particular award in GTA Sweden.
The event has been organised for 32 years by the professional website Travel News and is considered the most important annual meeting of the Swedish tourism industry.
The winners in all award categories are determined after a survey of around 400 travel agency executives evaluating their best suppliers, as well as a representative sample of 4,000 Swedish tourists who have taken at least one trip in the last year with at least an overnight stay.
According to the latest data on arrivals at Greek airports, in 2023, 544,097 Swedes visited Greece, with Greek cuisine and the feeling of security they enjoy in our country as their main factors of satisfaction.
