A knife-wielding Iraqi attacked a woman on Ermou Street, the pedestrian shopping street in central Athens.
The perpetrator attacked a woman who works as a saleswoman, and according to reports, the victim was selected at random.
She was taken with serious injuries to the Evangelismos hospital.
The attack occurred at 13:30 at the junction of Ermou and Fokionos streets, with the Iraqi using a 24cm knife with a 13cm blade.
While stabbing the woman, he shouted that he was an agent and a terrorist.
The victim is undergoing surgery and has a broken rib, a ruptured diaphragm and a lung injury. However, her life appears not to be in danger and she is conscious and communicative.
