Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Prioritises Greek Language Promotion, Expat Relations

Greek Deputy Foreign Minister George Kotsiras wrapped up a visit to Vienna and Baden-Württemberg, emphasising the government's commitment to strengthening ties with Greeks abroad and promoting the Greek language.

Kotsiras participated in events celebrating the 220th anniversary of the Hellenic National School of Vienna and International Day of the Greek Language. He highlighted the importance of the school in fostering both language learning and Orthodox faith, key pillars of the Foreign Ministry's strategy for Hellenism Abroad. This strategy includes initiatives like expanding the Greek language learning platform staellinika.com into German.

The Deputy Minister met with representatives of Greek associations and individuals in Austria, discussing government support programs and encouraging participation in upcoming European elections and the Foreign Ministry's strategic planning via postal vote and online consultation.

Kotsiras' visit to Baden-Württemberg included similar meetings with community leaders and a visit to the Greek General High School in Stuttgart. He reiterated government policies for Greeks abroad, including absentee voting, and emphasised the importance of modern digital tools in preserving Greek language and culture for future generations.

Kotsiras also stressed the importance of strong consular services, visiting the Consulate General in Stuttgart and pledging to improve service delivery and facilitate absentee voting.
