Among those found guilty and handed prison sentences was a 62-year-old individual, believed to be a key figure within the organisation. Despite facing grave accusations, he vehemently denied any involvement during his apology before the magistrate.
However, not all defendants met the same fate. Eight individuals, including a woman known for her appearance on a popular television game show and who was employed at a fuel station, were granted release without any restrictive conditions.
Yesterday’s courtroom session saw the appearance of 12 defendants out of the total 20 apprehended in connection with the criminal network. Today, the remaining eight defendants are scheduled to make their appearances before the court to offer their apologies.
According to the case details, the organisation members orchestrated a sophisticated operation involving the importation of chemical substances from Bulgaria. These substances were then utilised for the adulteration of fuels and ethyl alcohol, all done without paying requisite taxes and duties.
Additionally, the indictment reveals that the group exploited the legitimate facade of a disinfectant company to conceal their illegal activities, operating an underground factory for the production of chemical solvents used in fuel tampering.
Prosecutors estimate that the financial ramifications of the organisation’s illicit activities surpass the staggering sum of 1 million euros, representing evaded taxes and duties. As legal proceedings continue, authorities remain vigilant in their pursuit of justice and accountability.
