Indian Wells, California - March 12, 2024: In a surprising upset, Jiri Lehecka (32nd seed) dominated Stefanos Tsitsipas (11th seed) 6-2, 6-4 to book his place in the Indian Wells Masters quarter-finals.
This marks a significant achievement for Lehecka. Not only is it his first appearance in a Masters 1000 quarter-final, but it's also his first win against Tsitsipas, who previously had the upper hand in their head-to-head record.
Lehecka becomes the 11th Czech player to reach this stage at a Masters tournament, following in the footsteps of Tomas Berdych who achieved the feat at Miami in 2017.
Commenting on his victory, Lehecka emphasized the importance of preparation and a more aggressive playing style. He acknowledged the challenge of facing a high-ranked opponent but credited his superior preparation and on-court aggressiveness for securing the win.
Lehecka's path to the quarter-finals included victories over American wildcard Brandon Nakashima and Russian Andrey Rublev (5th seed).
