The Ioannina to Kakavia road project will complete the Ionia Motorway network. The project has advanced into the pre-contractual tender period after AVAX was announced as a temporary contractor about a month ago.
The contracting company has already submitted all the necessary documents. As soon as the contract is signed, it will be sent for approval to the Court of Auditors, News Auto reported.
As long as there are no further delays, a presentation to the Parliament will follow. Then, the contract signing ceremony will take place, which is estimated to happen by the European summer.
The tender for this large road project had to be auctioned three times. The first two were cancelled after an appeal that the Authority for Public Contracts (EAADISY) accepted. The tender was held for the third time, and AVAX prevailed.
The project's cost, including VAT, is 310 million euros, while an additional 76 million euros are included as options for the Kalpaki to Kakavia section and the connections with Ioannina Airport. In total, the cost amounts to 386 million euros.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport is the project's contracting authority, and once the whole project is complete, Athens will connect with Kakavia in less than four hours and 30 minutes.
