The century-old building, located in an area nicknamed the Neighborhood of the Gods, has windows and a rooftop terrace that look up at the temple.

This neoclassical house in Athens offers iconic views of the historic Parthenon atop the famed Acropolis. It is situated in an area known as the Neighborhood of the Gods.

The seven-bedroom home, listed for €12.8 million

The seven-bedroom home, listed for €12.8 million (approximately US$13.85 million) earlier this month, is located in the garden of the Acropolis Museum and provides breathtaking views of the ancient citadel. These views include a direct view of the Parthenon, a temple dedicated to the Greek goddess Athena, which was constructed over 2,400 years ago.

"The property, built over a century ago, is a landmark of modern Greek history," says Theofilos Zekos, sales manager of Engel & Völkers Greece. "It was constructed in 1923 and still retains the charm of its era. A carefully designed renovation took place at different stages, starting in 1980, then 1985, and finally in 2021. The property is one of the few remaining neoclassical buildings 'inside' the garden of the Acropolis Museum, making it extremely rare."

The property spans 193 square meters and offers 465 square meters of living space. Throughout the house, there are unique architectural details, such as 100-year-old terrazzo floors, lofty and ornate ceilings, and wooden staircases. The large windows provide views of the majestic Parthenon, other ancient Greek monuments, and the adjacent Acropolis Museum and its gardens.

The home is versatile and private. It is currently divided into three distinct apartments, allowing for private quarters for additional family members or caretakers, or two rentable units in addition to the owners' space. However, the three apartments can be easily combined into one large single-family residence without major renovations, according to the listing agent.

The seller's identity has not been disclosed, and Zekos declined to reveal it.

Upon entering the front door, a wooden staircase leads to the second-floor apartment. This level features a spacious living area with views of the Acropolis, a dining area, kitchen, master bedroom, second bedroom, two bathrooms, and a walk-in closet. An inner staircase leads to a rooftop level, which includes an office/bedroom, a kitchenette, and a 108-square-meter terrace with clear views of the Parthenon.

The rooftop terrace is ideal for al fresco dining while overlooking the Acropolis of Athens.

The first floor has the same layout as the second floor, with a living area, dining area, kitchen, master bedroom, second bedroom, two bathrooms, and a walk-in closet. There is a private entrance on the side of the building, and an additional door inside the front entry could potentially connect the apartments with an inner staircase.

The lower floor includes two bedrooms, two of the property's seven bathrooms, a spacious storage room, and an inner yard. It also has a private side entrance.

The home's unique location in close proximity to the museum, the Acropolis, and other key archaeological sites emphasizes its neoclassical design. The surrounding area, known as the Neighborhood of the Gods, is also filled with designer boutiques, cafes, and restaurants.

"Located at the heart of Athens' historic center, the home is within walking distance of many must-visit places," Zekos said. "This vibrant shopping and tourist district features beautiful neoclassical homes lining its streets. It is Athens' most charming neighborhood."

Although popular among tourists, the area still maintains a neighborhood feel and a sense of community for residents. Metro, tram, and bus services are close by, and the airport is less than an hour away by express train or direct bus. The area consistently attracts buyers and provides a healthy return on investment.
