An alarm was sounded on Saturday morning (06/04) for a large fire raging in three homes in Lasithi, Crete.
According to the local website radiolasithi.gr, the situation is made even more difficult by the fact that two other fire outbreaks are ongoing. One is in the area of Ammoudari near Myrtos, and the other is in Males (near the Xakoustis monastery). Many details about their size and dangerousness are still unknown.
By 9 a.m., more than 20 fire engines from all over Lasithi prefecture were operating on all three fronts. Additionally, a foot fire department from Heraklion has been transferred to Schinokapsala, where the front is the most dangerous. Aerial firefighting equipment is also being utilized.
