Greece's New Tourism Campaign Celebrates LGBTQ+ Diversity

Greece's tourism landscape undergoes a colourful transformation as Visit Greece, the official website of the Greek National Tourism Organisation (EOT), unveils a new section dedicated to promoting Greece as a leading LGBTQ+-friendly destination.

In a historic move, Greece marked its status as the first Christian Orthodox-majority country to legalise same-sex marriage back in February, followed by a landmark parliamentary vote allowing same-sex couples to adopt children. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis hailed the legislation as a bold step toward eliminating inequality.

Titled 'With the Colours of the Rainbow', the April edition of the Visit Greece newsletter showcases Athens as a vibrant, welcoming city and Thessaloniki as an inclusive destination open to all. Both cities are spotlighted for their rich cultural heritage, culinary delights, and vibrant LGBTQI+ communities, offering urban experiences ranging from historical landmarks to bustling nightlife scenes.

Through its dynamic tourism campaign, Greece not only showcases its natural beauty but also champions inclusivity and diversity. Visitors are invited to explore a plethora of LGBTQ+ events and art exhibitions featuring works by queer artists, as well as delve into ancient Greek mythology with exhibits highlighting queer themes in archaeology museums nationwide.

Among the most sought-after LGBTQ-friendly destinations is Mykonos, renowned as the "queen of gay nightlife," offering a blend of lively party scenes and tranquil coastal retreats. Additionally, Visit Greece highlights Lesvos, particularly the town of Eresos, along with Santorini, Skiathos, Corfu, and Crete, each offering its own unique charm and hospitable atmosphere.

As Greece embraces LGBTQ+ diversity, it solidifies its position as a welcoming destination for travellers seeking memorable experiences and a celebration of love in all its forms.
