It is a three-fold story, following a man with no options who tries to regain control of his life, a police officer who is worried because his wife, who had disappeared at sea, has returned looking like a completely different person, and a woman who is determined to find a certain man with a special ability who is destined to become an amazing spiritual leader.
The film marks the fourth film by Yorgos Lanthimos and screenwriter Efthymis Filippou in the competition section of the famous Cannes Film Festival.
Making his debut fifteen years ago, in 2009, Yorgos Lanthimos first gained international attention with the film Dogtooth, which won the Un Certain Regard award at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival.
This was followed in 2015 by the premiere of his first English-language film, The Lobster, which won the festival's jury prize. Lanthimos last appeared at Cannes in 2017, where he premiered The Killing of the Sacred Deer, which won Best Screenplay.
