A 45-year-old Greek man accused of the murder of a 65-year-old German resident has been remanded in custody on the island of Crete.
Following eight hours of testimony from the suspect, the investigating magistrate and prosecutor made the decision to detain him.
The victim, a permanent resident of the village of Ferma in Ierapetra, was discovered dead on April 6th in his home, surrounded by a pool of blood.
Initially presumed to have died accidentally due to ongoing cancer treatment, subsequent investigations revealed security footage capturing a hooded individual wearing a sanitary mask entering the victim's home after being granted entry.
The suspect, identified as a friend of the deceased, initially denied visiting him, claiming he had been fishing on the day in question.
However, further scrutiny led to the exhumation of the victim's remains, which were subjected to autopsy confirming death by violent means.
The arrest and subsequent legal proceedings mark a significant development in the case.
