In a tribute to the enduring legacy of Greek cinema, the bust of Filopimenos Finos, founder of the iconic Finos Film, will be unveiled on Thursday, April 25th, at 11:00 am (Greek time).
The ceremony, to be held in the Larissa station park, will be officiated by Minister of Culture, Mrs. Lina Mendoni, alongside Athens Mayor Haris Doukas.
The much-anticipated bust, honouring the visionary behind one of Greece's largest film production companies, was funded by the Ministry of Culture and supported by the Municipality of Athens. Renowned sculptor Vangelis Ilias has brought the likeness of Filopimenos Finos to life.
Positioned in the vicinity of Ioulianou, Metaxas, Samos, and Diligiannis streets, the location resonates deeply with the history of Finos Film, where timeless classics were brought to life. A proposal has been submitted to the Athens Municipality to rename the park in honour of Filopimenos Finos.
Finos Film boasts an impressive repertoire of 175 films that have left an indelible mark on Greek cinema. The works have featured esteemed actors such as Aliki Vougiouklaki, Rena Vlahopoulou, Alekos Alexandrakis, and Zoe Laskari, among others. Productions like "Alice in the Navy" (1961), "Madalena" (1960), and "Laterna, Poverty and Carnation" (1957) continue to captivate audiences, shaping the cultural landscape across generations.
Nearly five decades after Finos' passing, the Greek Film & Television Producers Association, under the leadership of directors Homer Efstratiadis, Takis Vougiouklaki, and Nikos Kavoukidis, has spearheaded the initiative to honour his enduring contributions.
The unveiling ceremony is expected to draw esteemed guests, including actors, technicians, and relatives of those immortalised on screen by Finos Film.
