Turkish-Greek Forum Explores Economic and Tourism Cooperation Opportunities

The Turkiye Research Foundation (TAV) and the Institute of Global Affairs (IGA) convened a forum in Istanbul on Saturday titled "Exploring Shared Interests and Opportunities for Cooperation" in the realms of economy and tourism.

Deputy Foreign Minister Kostas Fragogiannis, addressing the event via video message, highlighted the willingness of both Turkey and Greece to strengthen cooperation. He underscored the upcoming meeting between Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Ankara, emphasising the fourth meeting between the leaders within 10 months. Fragogiannis elaborated on the roadmap approved by the foreign ministers of both countries, focusing on political dialogue, a positive agenda, and confidence-building measures to bolster cooperation.

Dr. Fahrettin Altun, Head of Communications of the Republic of Turkiye, emphasised the significance of Mitsotakis' visit to Ankara as an opportunity to fortify bilateral relations. Altun stressed the importance of resolving issues bilaterally, without third-party involvement, underscoring the need for mutual understanding and alignment with national interests.

The event comprised two panels. The first, "Areas of Economic Cooperation between Turkiye and Greece," examined trade, investment opportunities, and collaborative initiatives. Panelists included Adnan Polat, Chairman of the Turkish-Greek Business Council, and Dr. Nikolaos Vettas, Professor at Athens University of Economics and Business. The second panel, "Potential for Partnership in Tourism," explored strategies to enhance the tourism sectors of both countries sustainably. Panagiotis Christofas, Mayor of Mytilene, and Dr. Volkan Altıntaş from İzmir Katip Celebi University were among the panelists.

The forum aimed to strengthen economic and tourism collaboration and foster understanding between Turkey and Greece, fostering a sustainable bridge of cooperation between the two nations.
