The CGGI evaluates government capabilities and effectiveness in 113 countries, representing over 90% of the world's population. Greece's overall index score has improved more than any other country worldwide, leading to a rise in its ranking from 50th to 41st place. This advancement is the largest in Europe and the second-largest globally.
The report attributes Greece's improved ranking to significant advancements in two key pillars: "Attractive Marketplace" and "Leadership and Foresight." Notably, Greece has climbed from 101st to 75th place in the former pillar and from 89th to 40th place in the latter.
Despite these strides, Greece's ranking in financial stewardship remains low, at 99th place. However, the country has shown progress in several indicators, including logistics competence, quality of the judiciary, and national brand.
Singapore leads the CGGI rankings globally, while Denmark, Finland, and Sweden are among the top performers in the European Union.
Furthermore, the 2024 CGGI report highlights the decline of the Russian state amid the strains of the war against Ukraine. It also underscores emerging global trends, indicating a widening governance gap between better-performing states and weaker ones.
