Kyriakos Mitsotakis Unveils Post-Election Family Support Measures

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis unveiled a forthcoming series of measures to bolster support for families post-European elections, coupled with initiatives to alleviate the burden of housing costs. Addressing attendees at the "Demographic 2024 - A National Priority" Summit within the historic confines of the Acropolis Museum, Mitsotakis stressed the necessity of patience and long-term commitment in addressing demographic challenges.

Highlighting the government's steadfast focus on assisting young families, Mitsotakis emphasised recent strides, including the elevation of childbirth benefits to 2,400 euros, retroactive from 2023. He also underscored the achievements of initiatives like the "My Housing" program and tax incentives aimed at combating declining birth rates.

The Prime Minister outlined plans for enhanced collaboration with the private sector to offer added incentives for prospective parents, particularly emphasising support for working mothers. Mitsotakis underscored the pivotal role of working mothers in family decision-making processes, alongside the significant contribution of grandparents.

Ensuring equitable access to nurseries and day-care facilities, whether public or private, emerged as a cornerstone of government policy. Mitsotakis also stressed the critical role of all-day schooling in supporting families across the nation.
