Greek Authorities Boost Security Ahead of European Final

Athens, Greece - Greek authorities have announced that they will deploy around 5,000 police officers in the capital city of Athens on Wednesday for the UEFA Europa Conference League final between Greek club Olympiakos and Italian club Fiorentina.

Despite a disappointing domestic season, Olympiakos has gained momentum in the third-tier European competition, having knocked out Fenerbahce and Aston Villa in the previous rounds. Moroccan striker Ayoub El Kaabi is the top scorer in the competition with 10 goals.

Olympiakos' third manager of the season, Spanish coach Jose Luis Mendilibar, has brought some stability to the team. Mendilibar, who led Sevilla to the Europa League trophy last season, said he will stick to the team's high-pressing playing style in the final.

"I (cannot) transform things with a magic wand," Mendilibar said. "I am not a guru, I'm a coach. I aim to present my team as best as I can and expect the best result."

The Greek authorities are taking no chances, with the large police presence intended to ensure the event runs smoothly. There could still be celebratory crowds on the streets of Athens if Olympiakos manages to deliver the Europa Conference League trophy.
