Athens Riviera: Greek Summer with a Twist

Just a few kilometres from central Athens, the bustling cityscape transforms into a stunning seaside resort known as the Athens Riviera. This picturesque stretch starts at Paleo Faliro, near the port of Piraeus, and extends over 60 km down the coast to Cape Sounion and beyond.

A new tourism video by Marketing Greece, in collaboration with Aegean Airlines, showcases this beautiful region. Titled “Athens Riviera, Greek Summer with a Twist,” the video highlights the best of Greek summer with a fresh perspective.

The video begins with a tourist missing her ferry and lamenting, “There goes my Greek island holiday! So now I’m stuck in Athens!” However, her disappointment soon turns to delight as she discovers the charms of the Athens Riviera.

The scenes show her enjoying various activities: diving into the sea with ancient Athenian landmarks in the background, strolling along sandy beaches, and dining with friends at seaside Greek tavernas. All these experiences are set against the stunning coastline, just a short distance from Athens' city centre.

“I just wanted to feel the Greek summer,” she narrates, “To discover something new every day. To feel connected with nature. To enjoy the past with a splash of blue. To taste Greek summer the traditional way – or the modern one. I just wanted to know what it’s like to do nothing while seeing everything. And I found them all!”

The message is clear: even if you miss the ferry to the islands, do not despair! The Athens Riviera offers an equally enchanting alternative. “Athens Riviera, Greek Summer with a Twist” invites travellers to explore this unexpected side of Athens and enjoy a Greek island vacation experience without leaving the mainland.
