Parole Revoked for Golden Dawn Founder Nikos Michaloliakos

Share

Nikos Michaloliakos, the founder of the criminal organisation Golden Dawn, is set to return to prison after the Lamia Appeals Justices' Council ruled on Monday to revoke his parole.

The appellate judges agreed with the public prosecutor's recommendation, overturning an earlier decision by a Misdemeanor Court Judges Council that had conditionally released Michaloliakos.

Michaloliakos was convicted and sentenced to 13 years in prison for leading Golden Dawn, which was designated a criminal organisation masquerading as a political party. The appeals council determined that Michaloliakos remained unrepentant and continued to support illegal Nazi practices. They cited his articles in electronic media, which praised Golden Dawn's Nazi-style activities, indicating a likelihood of reoffending.

As a result of the council's ruling, Michaloliakos will continue his incarceration as initially sentenced, until he has served the full duration of his term in accordance with the law.
