Basket League Finals: Olympiakos Triumphs Over Panathinaikos in Exciting Game 1


The Basket League finals are shaping up to be incredibly exciting. Olympiakos has already gained a significant edge by securing a road victory against Euroleague champions Panathinaikos on Wednesday, thus taking home advantage. In front of a packed crowd at the Olympic Sports Hall, Olympiakos led from start to finish, ultimately winning Game 1 of the best-of-five series with a score of 89-84.

Under the guidance of coach Giorgos Bartzokas, Olympiakos' players showcased their season-long defensive prowess, effectively neutralizing Panathinaikos' transition game and forcing the hosts into numerous three-point attempts.

Despite every effort by Panathinaikos to stage a comeback, Olympiakos maintained their composure and even extended their lead to as much as 15 points (72-57). Although Panathinaikos improved offensively in the final quarter and narrowed the gap to just three points (87-84), Olympiakos ultimately held firm to secure a crucial victory and go up 1-0 in the series.

Thomas Walkup led Olympiakos with 17 points, while Nigel Williams-Goss added 16. On the Panathinaikos side, Kendrick Nunn scored 21 points and Kostas Sloukas contributed 16.

Game 2 of the series is set to take place in Piraeus on Friday.
