President Sakellaropoulou Honours Greek Music Legends

In a ceremony at the Presidential Mansion on Friday morning, President Katerina Sakellaropoulou honoured composer Yannis Markopoulos (posthumously), lyricist Lefteris Papadopoulos, and composer Mimis Plessas with the Senior Brigadier of the Order of Honour medal for their significant contributions to Greek music.

President Sakellaropoulou praised the trio for their lasting impact on Greek music, noting their achievements in symphonic music, jazz, and scores for theatre and cinema. She emphasised the cultural importance of their songs, describing them as expressions of the Greek people's experiences and emotions.

"Songs are carriers of culture and mentality, reflecting joy, pain, and passions," Sakellaropoulou stated. "Despite evolving styles, the powerful, free-spirited music from that era remains unforgettable."

The medal for Yannis Markopoulos was received by his daughter, Lena Markopoulou, who expressed her gratitude for the honor bestowed on her late father.
