Greek authorities reportedly had CCTV footage capturing the final movements of Dr. Michael Mosley four days before his body was discovered on the picturesque island of Symi.
Dr Mosley, a renowned TV medic, tragically died after a hiking trip in the scorching heat, sparking a massive search operation.
The 67-year-old was reported missing last Wednesday after embarking on what was supposed to be a brief walk from the town of Symi to meet his wife. However, he took a wrong turn, turning what should have been a 20-minute journey into an extended trek.
Despite extensive efforts to locate him, including searches by both authorities and volunteers, it wasn't until Sunday that Dr. Mosley's body was found in a rocky area near Agia Marina, a short distance from where he was last seen on CCTV.
The discovery followed a revelation that Greek police had access to footage of Dr. Mosley's movements outside a beach bar near Agia Marina just hours before his disappearance. However, authorities reportedly didn't notice anything unusual in the footage, as Dr. Mosley appeared small and may have been difficult to spot.
Initial findings from Dr. Mosley's autopsy shed light on the circumstances leading to his tragic death. It suggested that he may have sought rest near the beach bar, possibly sitting against a wall before succumbing to the extreme heat. CCTV footage revealed him walking slowly through the mountainous terrain before collapsing, indicating exhaustion.
His widow, Dr. Clare Bailey Mosley, expressed her grief over the loss of her "wonderful" husband, thanking everyone involved in the search efforts. Their children also flew out to assist in the search, highlighting the family's determination to find him.
The discovery of Dr. Mosley's body brought a somber conclusion to the four-day manhunt. It was made by the island's mayor, Eleftherios Papakalodoukas, and a beach restaurant manager, Ilias Tsavaris, who were leaving on a boat when they noticed something amiss.
As investigations continue into the exact circumstances surrounding Dr. Mosley's death, his family and friends mourn the loss of a beloved husband, father, and esteemed medical professional.
