Skopelos, the most beautiful island for the French

The island holds first place among the most beautiful film locations in Greece.

Skopelos holds first place among Greece's six most beautiful film locations that create unique travel experiences, according to the list announced by the French website Generation Voyage after a survey of its readers' preferences.

According to the popular website trusted by millions of French tourists, "the church of Saint John (Agios Giannis) at Kastri stands iconic on a rocky islet offering a breathtaking panorama that 'embraces' the Aegean."

"The setting was immortalised in the film adaptation of the musical Mamma Mia, transforming the impressive rock from a lookout for pirate attacks that it served centuries ago to an international attraction for couples, nature lovers and walkers," the website added.

It is noted that the Municipality of Skopelos is continuing to promote the Sporades in emerging markets, such as France, which has shown a strong preference for them in recent years.

"Mamma Mia in Skopelos is not a movie; it's an experience. Those who visit Skopelos fall in love with nature, hospitality, homely tastes, picturesque alleys, and activities, and eventually return again and again because they have become our friends," explained Eva Karamesini, the president of the Tourism Committee of the Municipality of Skopelos.

At the same time, with the aim of reviving the romantic atmosphere of Mamma Mia, the Municipality of Skopelos chose this year to appeal to travellers through an original music video starring the pianist Elena Xidia.

The artist's piano was placed next to the chapel of Agios Ioannis at the top of the 100-metre-high rock during long hours of filming, which took place with the support of many volunteers.

Against the backdrop of the blue-green waters of Skopelos, Ms Xydia channelled Mamma Mia by playing timeless ABBA compositions on the piano.
