MyCoast App Sees Thousands of Coastal Violation Complaints

Thousands of complaints about coastal violations have been submitted to the MyCoast application, which was established earlier this year by the Finance Ministry to crack down on trespassing businesses.

In total, 6,000 complaints have been filed. The regional unit of Preveza in northwestern Greece stands out, with 872 complaints since the app's launch on April 30 - an average of 17 complaints per day. The Dodecanese islands have 555 complaints, the Cyclades have 463, and Attica has only 7. Halkidiki in northern Greece is second with 680 complaints.

The MyCoast app was introduced after citizen groups launched awareness campaigns last summer regarding distortions in the legislation concerning the use of beaches. The app aims to address the lack of public access to information about public space and to bridge the gap between citizens and the central administration.
