Prominent criminal lawyer Apostolos Lytras, 52, has been arrested after an incident of domestic violence against his wife, Sofia Polyzogopoulou.
The court had previously issued a restraining order against Lytras, but this was later lifted. However, following a disruptive visit by Lytras' relatives to the couple's home on Tuesday night, where they issued threats against Polyzogopoulou, the court has now replaced the restraining order with temporary detention.
It is alleged that Lytras also attempted to contact the victim and persuade her to relinquish a sum of money at their home.
These events occurred within 48 hours of the court's decision to release Lytras pending trial. The Greece's Supreme Court has now launched a probe into the court's decision and has called for a swift investigation into the case.
Lytras is expected to be detained and transferred to prison. The case highlights the ongoing issue of domestic violence and the challenges in ensuring the safety of victims, even when legal measures are in place.
