The Olympic torch's epic journey continues as it returns to metropolitan France after captivating audiences across five overseas territories during the Ocean Relay. This next stage shines a spotlight on the stunning landscapes and rich heritage of the Alpes-Maritimes department, culminating in an unprecedented detour through the heart of the Principality of Monaco.

The relay opens with a symbolic gesture as freediver Alice Modolo retrieves the torch from the depths of the Villefranche-sur-Mer harbour, the global capital of her sport. This Mediterranean town serves as the fitting backdrop to celebrate France's freediving prowess, exemplified by record-breaking athletes like Arnaud Jerald and Guillaume Nery.

From the sea, the torch embarks on a tour of the department's diverse treasures. It blazes past the citadel of Villefranche-sur-Mer before paying homage to the UNESCO-recognized perfume know-how of Grasse and receiving a red-carpet welcome in the glamorous Cannes.
